The Shield Of Faith

Ephesians 6:10-18

Be Strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the Full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Ephesians 6:16-In addition to this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Before a soldier went into battle he drenched his leather covered shield in water, he did this so when the arrows would come his way, he would block them with his shield and the flames would give way to the soaked shield. The shield of faith for the Christian works very similar.  The shield of faith is the Christians protection against temptation. It is a lie from the pit of hell that speaks a better life because we have sin present. The devil tells us that we will have a better life if we go out and party and get drunk.  It’s a lie from Satan that tells us that we will have a better life if we dress a certain way so every man in the house will desire us. It is a lie from Satan that tells us a one-night stand is harmless.  The fact is, if we claim to be in Christ Jesus…these things should not be a part of our life.  Am I saying that you can’t go out and have a good time…No but do it in a way that God can smile and not frown.  I liken this to my own children…. am I expecting my 16 year old to go out and tell his friends what thus saith the Lord…. no but I do expect him to honor the things that I have taught him in my presence and out of my presence. The challenge for us today is to get the shield that we were assigned when we enlisted in the Lord’s army and soak it with water to prepare ourselves for the flaming arrows that are coming our way.  The arrows women of God our coming, so we must be prepared. Soak the Shied and prepare yourself for battle!!!

Let’s pray, Father in the name of Jesus, we first say that we love you; you have been truly good to us.  We pray right now God that you will give us the strength to live in a way that you smile on us and not frown on us.  We desire to use our weapons to fight the enemy and all the flaming arrows he sends our way.  We thank you for the weapons that you have given us at conversion…. now help us to use them for your glory…It’s in the name of Jesus we pray…. Amen!
